Technical language borrows terms from common parlance and will give the term additional qualifications in the technical context. This isn't a problem until the baggage from the technical term is imposed upon back on the source language.

This is the true debate underlying "is Pluto a planet." It doesn't effect anyone whether Pluto is a planet or a dwarf planet or a large fish. What effects us is to what extent technical jargon is allowed to domineer everyday speech. Pluto is not a planet. The river flows back on its source. The tail wags the whale.
