God of Jonah
To the tune of Come Thou Long Expected Jesus (Hyfrydol)
God of Jonah come and weave us
As a Laurel us entwine
Every branch Thy grace sustaining,
In a living crown combine
Hardened we in gnarled armature
Barren, dry and brittle grown
Make us fertile, vital, limber,
Ply our shapes into Thine own
God of Moses, come ignite us
With Thy bright preserving flame
Make our cold, corrupted embers
Shining, warm and pure again.
Smothered in our own indifference
Breath your enlivening spirit o'er
Make of all our faults a kindling
Keep us burning forevermore
As a Laurel us entwine
Every branch Thy grace sustaining,
In a living crown combine
Hardened we in gnarled armature
Barren, dry and brittle grown
Make us fertile, vital, limber,
Ply our shapes into Thine own
God of Moses, come ignite us
With Thy bright preserving flame
Make our cold, corrupted embers
Shining, warm and pure again.
Smothered in our own indifference
Breath your enlivening spirit o'er
Make of all our faults a kindling
Keep us burning forevermore
