Of Templo Mayor

Black blades bloodied by the never ceasing rite
They bind a land to bondage and a dragon to a flight
Rent hearts beating on the artificial tor
The steps of the ascension have been slickened with the gore
High priest chanting in a rhythm with the blades
The priest who is invested with a virgin's skin he flayed
Sunlight streaming on the human blood it takes
Blood that cries to heaven as it streams into the lake
Old thirst ordering more offerings be spilled
Though all the vale of Mexico with carnage could be filled

But as if from another world, across the sunrise sea
Arises up a Babylon to set a people free
Whose ever-bleeding deity they up for all
And speak His It Is Finished over kings and gods and thralls
