Happy St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day.

If you are a Christian of European descent or if your culture was christianized by Europeans you have much to owe to the Irish who kept the faith during the fall of the Roman Empire and re-evangelized the continent thereafter, and thence to Patrick, whose Christlike love of his kidnappers transformed Irish culture for centuries.

I have heard it said by certain midwit atheists that the legend of Patrick driving the snakes out of Ireland is a reference to a genocide of the Pagan people. As if Patrick had wiped out Ireland's inhabitants (with what army?) and rose up for himself sons of Ireland from the stones of the Burren. Obviously the snakes are demons. How anyone could miss this is beyond me.

Make no mistake, the snakes are back in Ireland. There is no better day than today to express your gratitude for your Christian heritage by praying that God would send another Saint Patrick to drive the demons out of Ireland once again.
